Bauma 2016: Liebherr previews new cranes, earthmoving equipment
Products being showcased include an eight-axle mobile crane and a new crawler crane for the 100t class
Germany’s Liebherr is out in force at this year’s Bauma show in Munich, with over 60 construction machines being exhibited and 20 global premieres.
Among the new machines being showcased is an eight-axle mobile crane, the LTM 1450-8.1, with a maximum load capacity of 450 tonnes. Featuring an 85-metre telescopic boom, the new LTM 1450-8.1 is able to perform crane jobs normally reserved for the 500-tonne class in many cases.
In the design of the LTM 1450-8.1, the manufacturer said it focused on high economy and simple set-up on site, resulting in the new crane being able to travel on public roads with a 12-tonne axle load including its complete telescopic boom and all supports.
The crane also has a facility to work with a variable ballast radius. The VarioBallast feature on the LTM 1450-8.1 enables its ballast radius to be reduced with infinite adjustment from 7 metres to 5 metres using a simple hydraulic system.
Liebherr is also presenting a new crawler crane, the LR 1100 for the 100-tonne class.
The newly designed steel fabrication of this crawler crane resembles a tubular structure and allows for optimum force transmission over short distances. These can be further enhanced by about 20% using a swinging counterweight, available as an option.
To enhance ease of transport, the crane features a patented boom foot manipulator, making it easy for haulage contractors to move it.
In the earthmoving category, Liebherr announced the extension of the crawler tractor generation 6 with the new PR 716 Litronic – a world premiere at Bauma.
The tractor offers a series of features to improve maintenance access, such as central maintenance points, wide access flaps and engine compartment doors, a standard tilting driver‘s cab, as well as swivel-mounted fans for cleaning.
Another model making a global premiere is the R 922 crawler excavator for “less regulated markets,” being showcased at Liebherr’s BRICS demonstration park. On display at the park are machines for markets like Russia, India, China, South-East Asia or South Africa.
The concept of the new Liebherr R 922 crawler excavator is based on European standards and aims to improve reliability, as well as generate higher productivity on the construction site, with lower fuel consumption.
The launch of the R 922 is accompanied by a complete renewal of all crawler excavator models between 20 and 25t for these markets.
