Dubai-based Danube Properties has renamed its Ritz Tower project after realising that the name clashed with another trademark, the company announced.

The development – in which all units have already been sold to investors – will now be known as ‘Starz Tower By Danube’.

Danube did not give more specifics about the objections raised but confirmed that no legal proceedings had taken place.

“We had named our 5th project Ritz Tower by Danube after securing [no objection certificates] and approvals from all relevant authorities. Later it was realised that the name clashed with another registered trademark,” said Atif Rahman, General Manager of Danube Properties.

Danube is a 23 years old extremely strong and trusted brand where we believe in maturing our own brand identity for each project; we have never had any intention of trade mark infringement and the fact that our entire project portfolio carries ‘By Danube’ as a postfix stand testimony to that.

“Upon being informed about the matter, we immediately decided to rename the project to Starz Tower By Danube given our long standing association with Bollywood stars. There were no legal proceedings whatsoever as we mutually and amicably decided to change the name.”

The developer also said that Atlas Foundations has secured a contract for the enabling works and a pre-construction services for the Dh300 million ($81.6m) development, following the tendering and contractor selection process.

The group’s founder and chairman Rizwan Sajan also said that the tendering process for the main contractors is underway and the contract shall be announced soon.

The Starz Tower By Danube project is being built in the Al Furjan neighbourhood of Jebel Ali, in close proximity to Dubai South.
