Phase three of the large-scale Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City – District One project has been launched in Dubai, according to the developer.

Meydan Sobha has more than 9,000 workers on site for villa construction, with another 1,000 engaged in infrastructure works, according to a company statement.

Located 4km from Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai, part of the the development includes four- and five-bedroom freehold villas, which include – unusually for Dubai – the option to build a basement.

Meydan Sobha, a joint venture between Meydan Group and Sobha, says it has already sold out of villas in the first two phases of the project, with completion scheduled for 2017.

The wider project includes a 7km crystal lagoon with manmade beachfront, and a 14km boardwalk.

“This is a hugely exciting project, and we are delighted to launch the newest phase of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City – District One, while reporting great progress on the first two phases,” said Saeed Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of Meydan Group.

Phase three of the project is due for handover in 2018, and currently has more than 9,000 workers on site for the construction of the villas, with another 1,000 presently in infrastructure works.

With a total land area of 45 million square feet District One has “one of the lowest density villa developments in the heart of any international city”, the developer said.

District One is situated next to the planned Meydan One, which is set to host the world’s tallest residential tower, tallest observation deck and longest indoor ski slope.
