Construction work begins on world’s first aerotropolis in DWC

Megaproject will host the regional headquarters and facilities for aviation manufacturing, maintenance, repair and technology from across the globe, developer says

Dubai World Centre (DWC) the Dubai Government body behind the “world’s first” aerotropolis, has announced the start of construction on a 6.7 square kilometres aviation district within the DWC mega project.

The district, designed to host regional headquarters and facilities for aviation manufacturing, maintenance, repair and technology, will welcome its first aviation company, the Royal owned ‘Majestic Wings’ “within 12 months”, with 7360 square meter  fixed base operators facility.

Majestic Wings, which specialises in private business jet charter services is co-owned by H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan and H.E. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad Al Nahyan, who aim to develop a “class ‘A’ hangar facility”, for high end business travellers.

The firm’s plot will also feature a dedicated 4738 sqm apron in front of the hangar, providing space for several aircraft and ensuring easy access for clients.

The area will also become home to the Dubai Airshow from 2013.

“DWC continues to energize the industry with opportunities for business growth. DWC is positioned to meet the present and future needs of aviation, air transport, commercial and logistics businesses, being the world’s first purpose built aerotropolis. Dubai World Central will continue to play an important role in the long-term strategic growth plans of the emirate as we aim to establish Dubai as a premier hub for the aviation and logistics industries in the MENASA region and around the world,” said H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman, Dubai Aviation City Corporation.

With design and infrastructure currently under development for phase two of the projects, the aviation district will in future be backed up with a logistics district and residential district. The 140 square kilometers development, near Jebel Ali Port, will be connected via the E611 Dubai by-pass road and E311 Emirates Road.

Nestle Middle East has signed up to establish operations in the DWC business park and according to other reports, Emirates will move “by 2025”.
