The US-headquartered AECOM will be the design and build contractor on the first two phases of a new $56.6 million development in London, as it looks to grow its UK contracting business.

The Long Street scheme in the Shoreditch district comprises of a 10-storey new build, along with significant structural modifications and refurbishment to two existing buildings, a report by Construction Enquirer said.

The project will ultimately see 119 new loft-style apartments provided to the developer, IGI.

It will be the first major London residential contracting project for AECOM, following its September 2015 announcement that it would be launching a UK contracting business.

“This win is part of our focused strategy to bring AECOM’s global design and build capabilities to the UK commercial and residential sector,” said John Hilton, head of Construction Services, UK and Ireland, AECOM.

“It’s a focused approach that tightly integrates design and construction to help our clients save money and reduce build time.

“We look forward to working with our supply chain networks to grow our portfolio of commercial and residential projects across the UK.”

Construction on the project is scheduled to start this month.
