Emaar to build new tower at Dubai Creek
Sheikh Mohammed gives green light to project
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister and ruler of Dubai, has given the green light for a new tower to be built by Emaar in the historic Dubai Creek area.
During a visit to a show at the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai ruler reviewed designs put forward by six international consultants bidding for the contract, state news agency WAM reported. He was accompanied by Emaar Properties chairman Mohamed Alabbar, as well as Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director General of Dubai Protocol and Hospitality Department, and Fadil al Ali, CEO of Dubai Holding.
Sheikh Mohammed is said to have approved a design by Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava. The design is inspired by Islamic architecture and meets “requirements of modern times, as well as local environment and culture,” it was reported.
The new tower is set to be another tourist attraction and landmark in the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed said. It will be an “architectural wonder that will be as great as Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower,” he added.
Construction work on the project will begin in a few months’ time, the report said.
Emaar Properties is currently engaged in building a 6 sq. km mega-development along the Dubai Creek, the Dubai Creek Harbour, which it says will be three times the size of Downtown Dubai.
The developer held a local and international sales launch last month for the Harbour Views residences, a two-tower development in the project. January also saw Emaar award the construction contract for Dubai Creek Residences, located within the same development, to Al Basti & Muktha.
