Nakheel has awarded a contract for its 11km Boardwalk at Palm Jumeirah, a waterfront attraction worth around $41 million to Overseas AST Company LLC.

Nakheel’s 11km Boardwalk at Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah – a new waterfront attraction with a project value of $41 million – has moved a step closer with the award of a contract to Overseas AST Company LLC.

According to a company statement, the Boardwalk will transform Palm Jumeirah’s 11km protective crescent into a destination for walking, shopping and dining. It will also include an East and West Pier – each stretching 100 metres out to sea. The piers will be constructed at either end of the crescent, and will each contain 1,000 square metres of decking.

The Boardwalk will be accessible from 14 points along the existing sidewalk and will be created by building over the rocks of the Palm’s breakwater. It will be six metres wide – more than double the width of the existing crescent path – and will feature 30 kiosks, offering refreshments and souvenirs, throughout its length.  Construction is due to start before the end of 2014, with anticipated completion in mid-2016, Nakheel has said.

“The Boardwalk at Palm Jumeirah, one of several new projects underway on the island, will be a big draw for Palm residents, the wider community of Dubai and the millions of tourists who visit Dubai each year,” a Nakheel spokesperson said.

The developer’s other projects underway on Palm Jumeirah include Nakheel Mall, The Pointe and Palm West Beach.
