Developing the infrastructure required for Expo 2020 will require $8.1 billion worth of funds, the chairman of the RTA has said.

Speaking at the Dubai International Project Management Forum on Monday, Mattar Al Tayer, executive director of the RTA, said the Expo would require “funding in the tune of 30 billion dirhams to develop the infrastructure of the whole city, exhibition yard, and the surrounding areas.”

“The RTA will design and construct transport projects needed to host Expo including the extension of the Metro Red Line, and upgrading surrounding roads & junctions leading to the site of the Expo,” he added.

Earlier this month, Al Tayer announced that the RTA had 35 mega projects in the pipeline for the upcoming Expo.

The opening ceremony of the forum was attended by dignitaries including heads of government entities and private businesses and a wide array of international PM experts.
