Abu Dhabi complying with HSE rules
UAE capital’s municipality says that 627 contractors, consultants and developers have registered on its HSE system
Some 627 contractors, consultants and developers have registered on the municipal health, safety and environment (HSE) system, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi announced on Sunday.
Designed to help minimise accidents and injuries in the sector and create a safer working environment, the HSE system was launched in July 2010 by the Municipality. Since then it has conducted more than 3,000 inspections to construction sites in the UAE capital.
It has also visited 117 worker accommodation sites to ensure that they’re living in safe and adequate conditions.
Over the course of these 3,000 offences, the Municipality has registered some 250 offences against building, construction and demolition sites for failing to adhere to its HSE standards.
According to data in a report by UAE based newspaper, Gulf News, the municipality has received more than 3,916 applications for building, construction, demolition and maintenance work permits in the second quarter of 2012.
