Nakheel’s chairman joined Centara chairman Suparat Chirathivat following appointment of contractor Parkway
Nakheel Chairman Ali Rashid Lootah has joined the head of the master developer’s partner Centara on a tour of the $136 million Centara Deira Islands Beach Resort site following the signing of the construction contract for the 601-room property.
Both Lootah and Suparat Chirathivat, chairman of the board, Centara Hotels and Resorts, were pictured touring the beach-side resort after Parkway International Contracting LLC was named as the main contractor for the project last week.
Centara Deira Islands Beach Resort Dubai is due to open in 2020 and is located on a prime beachfront spot at Nakheel’s Deira Islands waterfront city. The resort will also be managed by Centara, whose growing portfolio already includes over 12,000 keys across 60 hotels and resorts in Asia, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East. Centara entered the Middle East market with the opening of Centara Muscat Hotel last year.
The two companies formed joint venture for the resort in October last year and property will provide a family-centric lifestyle destination on Nakheel’s new, 15.3 sq km waterfront city.
“Nakheel continues to play a pivotal role in shaping and diversifying Dubai’s tourism offering with a 27 billion AED hospitality and retail expansion that supports the government’s vision,” said Lootah said after the Parkway announcement. ” Our JV with Centara underlines our commitment to working with trusted international brands to bring new hospitality concepts to Dubai, and today’s crucial milestone brings this exciting new resort ever closer. I look forward to delivering one of Dubai’s most sought-after destinations for travellers from all over the world.”
The resort, set to open in 2020, is the first Centara establishment in the UAE and will cover an area of almost 300,000 sq ft. Features will include a waterpark, multiple restaurants, kids’ club, spa and fitness centre, and business facilities.
