Shurooq commences work on Dibba island project
Sharjah government investing more than $136m into Eastern region projects
Sharjah’s Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) announced Wednesday that development work had commenced on the Al Hisn Island project off the coast of Dibba, in the eastern region of the emirate.
Having received the approval of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the project becomes the third to be announced in the Eastern Region.
Earlier this year, Shurooq had announced that work on the $114.35m The Chedi Khorfakkan Resort. More than $136m has been allocated for investment in projects including a Kalba Eco-Tourism project and Al Hisn Island.
In an interview with Live Broadcast on Sharjah Radio, Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, stated that the Al Hisn project would be a leisure and tourism project that would provide a new destination for the region’s residents, as well as visitors and tourists from neighbouring areas.
He added that the project would include a large water canal and a number of cafes and restaurants with a view of the canal, parks and other landmarks.
“This project is being developed according to the directives of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah in developing the Eastern Region and his order to deliver projects that serve the interests of citizens in these areas, (in terms of) driving economic growth and attracting investments that help create jobs and added economic value,” Al Sarkal explained.
Furthermore, he said that Sheikh Sultan had approved the master plan for the commercial complex of Kalba Eco-Tourism.
This project will be located alongside the Kalba Lake and will comprise of a number of restaurants, retail outlets, children’s parks and places to monitor the birds and animals in the reserve.
“Work is underway in collaboration with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah and a number of experts to prepare the area environmentally for the animals and plants which be in the project,” Al Sarkal explained.
“Engineers and environmental specialists are conducting the necessary studies and research to carry out the project to the highest environmental standards and develop the project to help protect the area and its various environmental components,” he added.
