Contractor will build the first of two planned Dubai Airports facilities
ALEC has been awarded the contract to build the world’s first Tier 3 certified Modular Data Centre Complex (MDCC) at Dubai International Airport, the contractor has announced.
The scope of work for ALEC includes the complete civil, MEP and infrastructure works. The Dubai International Airport Data Centre is set to be the first of two planned facilities at Dubai Airports, a statement from ALEC added.
Dubai Airports will partner with Huawei to design the high-profile centre, which was announced at GITEX Technology Week in 2016. The modular containers for the data centre space will be provided by Huawei, while the data centres themselves will be interconnected through a dedicated fibre optic link.
These facilities will provide high-level resilience and availability to support the critical operations of Dubai Airports, ALEC said.
On average, 230,000 passengers pass through Dubai International Airport on a daily basis, and this figure is expected to grow towards 325,000 per day by 2023, making zero downtime and high reliability a vital requirement.
The Modular Data Centre Complex will be the world’s first modular data centres that will be certified by the Uptime Institute to Tier 3 for Design and Construction.
