Riyadh Metro Line 5 tunnel excavation completed

Tunnel excavation works for Line 5 of the Riyadh Metro project has been completed, Arriyadh Development Authority announced in a press release.
Line 5, also known as the Green Line, is one of the three lines being constructed by the FAST Consortium that comprises of Atkins, which is the lead designer, along with Freyssinet Saudi Arabia, Alstom, Samsung, Strukton, Setec and Typsa.
The 13-kilometre-long Green Line runs underground within a bored tunnel along King Abdulaziz Road. It features 11 deep underground stations, in addition to two transfer stations with the Red and Blue lines.
This is the second tunnel boring machine (TBM) out of seven to complete excavation works in the city for the Riyadh Metro project, the company said.
Additionally, a full-size mock-up of the Riyadh Metropolis trains manufactured by Alstom was unveiled at a ceremony attended by the Governor of Riyadh, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Transport Minister His Excellency Suleiman Al Hamdan, and other dignitaries from different government officials.
Alstom will now start the construction of the track works which will commence within an at-grade section of the Yellow Line, and will be the first tracks to be installed throughout the Riyadh Metro project.
In addition to the tracks, Alstom is also supplying a fully integrated metro system which includes 69 Metropolis Trains, Urbalis signalling and an energy recovery system.
