Bahrain’s Ithmaar Development Company (IDC) has inked an agreement with design firm Dar Al-Handasah Consultants to design the Dilmunia Gateway Bridge.
A statement by the company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ithmaar Bank, said that the bridge will connect the $1.6 billion manmade Dilmunia island to Bahrain’s mainland.
IDC chief executive Mohammed Khalil Alsayed, and Dar Al-Handasah regional director of operations Bassam Shakhshir were present to sign the agreement.
The Dilmunia project is a mixed-use development on a 125-hectare manmade island off the coast of Muharraq, Bahrain’s third-largest city. The development has a health and wellness focus and includes residences, hotels, leisure and shopping districts.
“I am pleased to welcome Dar Al-Handasah Consultants to work with us on this main key feature of our development,” said Alsayed. “We are confident that the bridge design shall ensure the objectives of aesthetics, traffic and utility crossings, while maintaining the constraints of cost effectiveness and life span durability.”
